Northumbrian Water was one of the first North East companies to get involved with the Foundation and are the official sponsors of the Tony Blair Tennis Challenge Cup. They are very active in promoting and recruiting their employees to take part in sport and volunteer in their local communities.
Employees of Northumbrian Water give their time through the company's excellent volunteer scheme and many have been trained to help organise and support the mini-red tennis leagues that make up the tennis competition.
Rio Tinto Alcan promotes the Foundation to their employees and their families and match funds the 50% coaching fees for a Level 1 coaching/official qualification.
They recently opened a new company gym and we are working with them to organise sporting events for their employees and families to take part in.
The Tony Blair Sports Foundation is working with ASDA to encourage their staff to become volunteers, coaches and officials in the sports we support. ASDA funded 100% of the coaching costs to the first 100 employees to sign up to the scheme.
Asda employs approximately 12,000 people across 22 North East stores and, once recruited and trained, TBSF works with community groups to find placements for ASDA volunteers.
Gateshead Council marked 2008 as their ‘Year of the Volunteer’ and by working with them we promoted volunteering in sport to local people. In 2009, local people were invited to help out at our athletics event held at Gateshead International Stadium and the Foundation continues to work with the Council to promote volunteering in sport.
North Tyneside Council launched its Year of Sport in September 2008 and The Tony Blair Sports Foundation is working with them to promote sport and healthy living and to increase the number of people volunteering in sport across the borough.
NSK in Peterlee funded the cost of indoor rowing machines into schools in the Easington area. They also promote the TBSF to their employees encouraging them to sign-up to volunteer with us.
