Officiating Basketball
BECOME A BASKETBALL OFFICIAL
Becoming a basketball official can be a great way to volunteer and give something back. There are now many new leagues and competitions developing in the North East and if the sport is to progress, new officials are needed.
There are two types of official in basketball, the table official and the referee. Courses to gain awards to become qualified are organised with the Foundation through England Basketball.
TABLE OFFICIALS
Qualified table officials are an important part of any basketball game. We offer a Level 1 (Apprentice) Award course. It is an introduction to basketball and is designed for beginners. It provides an overview into the general role of a timekeeper and scorer. The qualification allows you to officiate at school matches and youth league level as well as recreational games.
REFEREES
Without qualified referees, basketball games can't take place. They are an incredibly important part of the game.
We offer a Level 1 (Apprentice) course. As with the Table Officials course, this is aimed at pure beginners.
It provides an overview into the fundamentals of violations and fouls that need to be dealt with when you are running a game. The qualification allows you to officiate at school matches and youth league level.
