The second County Final of the 2012 Tony Blair Tennis Challenge Cup took place at tennis World in Middlesbrough on Friday 22 June. With two places in the Grand Final at stake, the competition between the Tees Valley’s brightest young tennis stars was fierce and made for a great day’s sport.

Teams of Year 3 boys and girls from eight schools took part in the County Final. After promising to give 110% effort in their matches during the day, the competition got underway. Throughout the day, the young competitors brought their best tennis skills to the courts in their individual matches and during the gruelling skill and accuracy challenges in the Tennis Factory.

During the day, the young competitors and the competition organisers were ably assisted by a team of Tony Blair Sports Foundation volunteers from MacMillan Academy and Trinity Catholic College (pictured). These students completed Tennis Young Leader Awards with the Foundation earlier this year, and were able to put their new skills to fantastic use in helping to umpire the events at the Tees Valley County Final. Well done to all of the volunteers who took part, and thanks to the competition organisers for what was a great day’s competition.

After all of the scores were added up, Yarm Primary School were announced as the winners, with Ingleby Mill Primary School the runners up. Congratulations to both of these schools who have qualified for the Grand Final of the Tony Blair Tennis Challenge Cup on Friday 6 July.
