New Athletics Partnership is a First for TBSF

The Tony Blair Sports Foundation is pleased to welcome the Northern Frontrunners Running Club as its latest partner club, and as its first lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) partner club.

Set up in October 2011 by Chairman Steven Duffy, the Northern Frontrunners promotes healthy living through running and caters for both male and female runners of all abilities and experiences. And although it was established as an LGBT club, anyone is welcome to join the Northern Frontrunners to train, meet new people and socialise in a friendly and safe environment.

Training sessions take place on Monday and Wednesdays nights, with the Club meeting in Sunderland on a Monday and in Newcastle on a Wednesday so that opportunities to join the Northern Frontrunners are provided across the North East region. Typical training sessions include a warm up followed by both slow and fast paced runs and interval session training, which ensures that all abilities are catered for within the Club’s sessions.

The Tony Blair Sports Foundation is looking forward to a positive partnership with the Northern Frontrunners. Explaining why the Club chose to establish a partnership with the Foundation, Craig Smith, the Northern Frontrunner’s Communications Director said:

“The Northern Frontrunners decided to get involved with the Tony Blair Sports Foundation because we share the same goal to promote healthy living through regular exercise. We believe that we will really benefit from the coaching support that the Foundation offers, which will help us to grow and attract more members. In turn, we want to help with the work of the Foundation in other ways as our partnership develops in the future.”

And Jeanette Pickard, Chief Executive of the Tony Blair Sports Foundation, was equally enthusiastic about the Foundation’s latest partnership:

“We are really pleased to be working with the Northern Frontrunners and to be supporting their work within the North East. This partnership will be a great opportunity for the Foundation to help make a difference to a growing club which shares our values and wants to inspire the North East to become more active.”
