My Coaching Story: Jill Stacey
Wednesday, Apr 15, 2009 in Sports FoundationHi, my name is Jill
I am currently in my third and final year of a Sports Coaching and Exercise Science Degree which provides me with knowledge and understanding of coaching. It also teaches the key elements involved with becoming a good coach, as well as providing hands on experience and a foundation from which to start working my way up the coaching ladder.
After gaining my FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football I have been working on a casual basis for the Newcastle United Football Foundation, I am now currently working towards my Level 2 qualification, because of this I have concentrated on football specifically, and hadn't really thought about any other sports.
However I found that I was starting to think about other sports and how getting involved and coaching other sports may be able to benefit me in my long term goal of becoming a PE teacher. To achieve this goal I know I will need many and varied sports coaching experience and qualifications.
With this in mind, I was told about the Tony Blair Sports Foundation and how they could help me on my way to achieving my long term goal.
When I contacted the Foundation, they were very helpful and informed me of a variety of course's that they were able to help financially fund and also helped get me in touch with the course leaders. After looking at all the course's I chose the Level 1 Basketball Coaching Course and I am very grateful for this opportunity to gain knowledge and guidance from the experienced tutors that the course provided.
Without the help of The Tony Blair Sports Foundation I would not have had the opportunity to complete the course, they provided me with all the help and support that I needed.
Hopefully, by telling my story I might encourage others to take a coaching qualification so that we can help others across the North East to get into sport.
Thanks for reading
