Help more people play sport by running the Great North Run

If you’re still looking to secure yourself a place in this years Great North Run then here’s where we can help you and in return you can help more children and young people play sport.

The Great North Run is one of the most famous and prestigious half marathons attracting athletes and fun runners from across the world. This year, organisers have received a record number of applications, with over 100,000 people applying to take part in what will be the 30th Great North Run across Tyneside on Sunday 19th September. For the 3rd year the Tony Blair Sports Foundation will be taking part and raising money which will go directly to fund more sports coaches and officials so that more children get access to playing sport.

The Tony Blair Sports Foundation is a charity set up in the North East by the former Prime Minister Tony Blair and in the run up to the 2012 Olympics and beyond, the Foundation aims to increase participation in sport by young people in the North East by helping more people become trained sports coaches and officials. The Foundation pays 50% of the costs of Level 1 Coaching or Officiating qualifications and then works with members to make sure their new skills are used in communities that need them most.

Former Olympic athlete and founder of the Great North Run, Brendan Foster, tells us here what his coach meant to him and why we need to train more people to get involved in sport.

Help will be given every step of the way with training advice, fundraising ideas and full support on the day.

You’ll also get the opportunity to win a very special VIP place which means you could start the race alongside the elite runners!
